Enfield Bridge Replacement
Project Details
The project involved full replacement of the existing substructure and superstructure. This project utilized prestressed concrete deck units rather than typical steel girders, and simulated stone masonry parapets. This project was a great success and during the duration of the road shutdown, we had unexpected flooding which shut the project down for 2 weeks, and we were still able to complete the bridge and have the road open to traffic in the 120-day shutdown period.
The project had an allowable 120-day road shutdown period in which the bridge must be demolished, replaced and re-opened. This project had tons of work that was performed prior to the road shutdown, including demolition of a house for a temporary WSA and the final roadway, installation of sheet cofferdams and construction of footings and retaining walls. This project had major difficulties with access, the only way into the project was under a 12′-5″ bridge on one side, and a 7′-6″ bridge on the other side, which greatly impacted the equipment we were able to get into the job site.
