SUMMARY

The project involved full deck replacement of Bridge No. 03023 Sigourney St over Capitol Ave, Amtrak, CT Fastrak, Private Road and Parking. In addition to the deck replacement, there were jacking and new bearing installations, substructure concrete repairs, steel repairs, blasting and painting, and installation of new span poles, pedestrian crossing pedestals, and light standards. The project was a success completing all work while keeping the bridge open to traffic.

Key Challenges

This was a stage construction project, consisting of 3 stages to replace the entire bridge deck, while keeping the bridge open to traffic. This had many difficulties to it, including truck detours, temporary signalization, 21 separate deck pours, and demolition work over Amtrak.
