SUMMARY

The project consisted of replacing the existing pin and hanger assemblies with new stainless-steel assemblies to improve the long-term performance of the bridge. The work included jacking the bridge girders, removing and replacing the pin and hanger assemblies, line boring the connection holes, and abrasive blast cleaning and painting the beam ends.

Additional work included replacing elastomeric bearings and asphaltic plug joints, installing waterproofing membrane, milling and paving, completing structural steel repairs, and installing jacking beams to support the rehabilitation work.

Key Challenges

A significant challenge on the project was accommodating changes to the work during construction, including the procurement of specialty stainless-steel components with extended lead times. Additional challenges included extensive field verification, strict traffic restrictions, and coordinating multiple phases of work while maintaining the project schedule.
