SUMMARY

The project involved the replacement of Bridge No. 01157 carrying Bucks Hill Rd over I-84. The existing superstructure was a 2-span bridge with one pier in the median and was fully replaced with new steel girders and concrete deck. The pier was fully demolished and replaced in the median of the highway, while the abutments received new pedestals and concrete repairs. The project was a success and the road was opened to the pubic over a month ahead of schedule.

Key Challenges

The project had an allowable 258-day road shutdown period in which the bridge must be demolished, replaced and re-opened. This project had difficulties by working over I-84 Eastbound and Westbound, this required many night shifts, lane closures, and rolling roadblocks.
